Exclusive Interview with "The Other Flag Football Coach"

We all know what happened with the flag football controversy today. This story has spread like wildfire from the Sun Sentinel to a national level...destroying a flag football coach's reputation in one day. The story piqued the BBB's curosity enough to reach out to the other coach...Western High coach James Obrien to get his thoughts on the aftermath of this whole crazy episode. This is what he had to say...

"Unfortunately, Coach Wyche's passion for what he does contributed to his brief lapse in judgment, and it was caught on film. I am sure he is embarrassed by it. Anyone who has coached can understand his frustration, and this is probably one of those moments he wishes he could have back.

In a sport that many would probably consider irrelevant, those of us who coach it and play it take a great amount of pride in being successful. To work with a group toward a common goal, to be the best at what you do, is a feeling we would love to give to the student-athletes we coach. Sports provide daily microcosms of life lessons, lessons even we as coaches are still learning.

Flag football is a sport sanctioned by 160 high schools across the state of Florida, and its popularity is growing each year. It provides girls an opportunity to learn about the basics of football from a player's perspective. Anyone who has been associated with it can attest that it's fun to play, it's fun to coach, and it's fun to watch."

Well said James, well said. This is the real story...a coach who cares about his kids, the sport and having fun. James is a former Miami Hurricane player that also coaches Varsity football for the boys as well. A class act. Please contact the school #754-323-2400 or go to the website at http://www.westernhigh.org/index.html to donate money for the football program.
